On and off over the past 6 years, I’ve used a non-smartphone as well, starting with a beloved Blackberry Bold 9790. Although, I now use a smartphone exclusively. The dumb-phone afforded me insight, and for that I still love them. But I feel like I’ve come closer to my goals without one. A year or two ago I went on a road trip to North Carolina with my girlfriend, and figured that it would be excellent to rely solely on physical maps that we collected at border outposts. And it was. Never before had I realized how damned sufficient highway signs are. But in the end I continue to use Apple Maps. Why, because it’s just so much easier. Although, I will never cease to thank my experience. I am a much better highway navigator now. So it’s in that way, that the dumb-phone was for me. An invaluable experience but not my solution. Now I have no real right for unsolicited advice. But for anyone who sees a solution in a dumb-phone, but ultimately quits using one, like myself, I would say to not hold too much stock in it, to love yourself still, and appreciate the experience. For anyone who does keep it, I am happy for you, because dumb-phones are wonderful.
I’m grateful that my slave labour made iPhone sent me a notification of a new hotfemoid post <3
